Nobody walks onto the CommX stage cold. Every speaker works through a coached development programme first, in a small cohort, with all three coaches.

Two weeks to find the message and clear what's in the way. Then four weeks on delivery - because knowing what to say and being able to land it are two different skills, and the second one takes practice.

Find the one thing worth saying.

Most talks fail before delivery, because they're carrying four ideas instead of one. We find the single idea your talk exists to deliver - and why the audience trusts you on it.

WEEK 2

Get out of your own way

You now have something worth saying, which is exactly when the resistance shows up. Who am I to say this. What if someone challenges me. We work on it directly.

WEEK 3

Build the talk.

Opening, arc, close. Which story earns its place and which one you're keeping out of habit. By the end of the week you have a talk on its feet, not a document.

WEEK 4

Find your delivery.

Voice, pace, pause and the use of silence. What to do with your hands, your eyes and the stage. You'll be on your feet the whole session - this is reciting into connecting.

WEEK 5

Rehearse and rebuild.

Full run-throughs in front of the cohort and all three coaches. Notes from three angles - message, mindset, delivery - then you run it again, changed, the same day.

QUESTIONS

Straight answers.

Question 1: So speakers pay to be on stage?

Speakers pay for a coached development programme - a six-week intensive with three professional coaches, a professionally filmed keynote and event photography. The stage is where that work gets delivered.

We also select, so not everyone who registers gets a place. And we say plainly what CommX is: a showcase of people who've just completed the programme.

Question 2: Do I need speaking experience to apply?

No. Some speakers will never have spoken to an audience before. What you need is something you want to say and the willingness to work on it.

Question 3: What do I speak about?

You bring an idea, experience or expertise. Week one is spent working out what the talk actually is - most people arrive with something bigger and vaguer than the talk they end up giving.

Question 4: How long is each talk?

10 minutes and we are strict on time.

Question 5: Can I use my talk video however I like?

Yes. You get full rights to use your talk video for your website, speaker profile and marketing, with the CommX branding intact.

Question 6: Can my employer pay the speaker fee?

Yes. We can invoice your organisation directly and provide a summary of the programme for a professional development or L&D budget request.

Question 7: Is the venue accessible?

Yes. Te Pou Theatre has step-free access, wheelchair-accessible seating and toilets, a hearing loop, mobility parking and a drop-off point. Service dogs are welcome. Tell us what you need and we'll sort it.

Question 8: Is there parking?

Free parking on site at Corban Estate Arts Centre. Henderson Station is about a kilometre away, with buses on Lincoln Road and Great North Road.
